Transit Custom 2015 - Replacing the LCD Screen... help!!

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

Hope someone can advise me cos I'm a bit out of my depth here.
I have a 2015 Transit Custom, and the central LCD screen (the one that controls the radio, and displays the feed from the reversing camera) slowly died over a period of 6 months or so. At first it was flickery and worked intermittently, but it now doesn't work at all. The radio & buttons etc work fine, but the display itself does not work.
I managed to remove it and see what it looked like, and took a pic of the sticker with the part/serial numbers. Then using that info, I found a replacement part on eBay which the seller assures me should be compatible. (I bought a whole unit labelled "FORD NAV MFD LOW", not just the screen part). The unit I bought looks the same as the faulty one that is currently in my van.
I'm perfectly comfortable with the physical process of fitting this new part into my van, plugging in the connectors etc, but the seller also said that it may require "coding" in order to work. I know nothing about the electronics/software side of things so am worried that I might mess things up big time if I just try and fit it.

Can anyone tell me:
- Does fitting a replacement nav unit require coding? If so, what does that involve?
- If I just go ahead and fit the part, does that risk bricking the rest of the system? Or is the worst case simply that it doesn't work any better than the part that's in there currently?
- Would I need to unplug the battery before fitting the part?

Thank you!

As long as the part numbers are the same then it will be a straight swap, no coding or anything. Wouldn't bother disconnecting battery either.

OK great, thanks for the info.

Do you know if it makes any difference for the coding situation if it has come out of a different vehicle? I believe the one I bought 2nd hand was previously in a Fiesta ST MK7.5.
(The part number is F1BT 18B955 DB in case that matters.)
