Need some pointers for removing the engine on my mk6 fiesta. Got the intake off, alternator off, throttle body off, now I need to get the gearbox off and remove the engine. Does anyone have any guides for this? Gotta have a new engine in the car by Sunday/Monday, so as much info as I can get really 😂

Gearbox:

Wheels off, hub bolts off, driveshafts out.  (May need to pop wishbone BJ's depending on shaft access)

Remove battery & battery box for gearbox mount access

Open gear selector box and pop off gear cables

Remove clutch fluid line from gearbox

Unbolt lower gearbox mount (roll restrictor)

Support the gearbox using a jack

Support the engine using a second jack or engine crane

Remove top gearbox mount

Unbolt all large gearbox bellhousing bolts, start at the bottom for safety, take care that the box is supported at all times

Finally pull the gearbox away from the engine and either rest it on the subframe or pull it right out of the way, depending on access space

Engine:

Unbolt exhaust

Unplug main engine loom connector

Disconnect heater hoses and radiator hoses

Disconnect fuel pipe

Unbolt AC compressor - leave it connected to the hoses and support it away from the engine if possible (saves AC de-gas & regas)

Disconnect power steering pipes if applicable

Hook up the engine hoist (if not already done for gearbox)

Make one final check to ensure nothing is left connected to the engine itself

Take the weight of the engine on the hoist, then unbolt the top engine mount

Start lifting the engine

Find that something is still connected despite all previous checks

Remove whatever that is.

Then lift the engine straight up and out.

**It is possible to pull the engine and gearbox out together, but you would need to de-gas the AC and remove the whole front end in order to do that.  I don't think that's the most effective option in this case.

😄👍

I'd drain the gearbox oil too before removing the drive shafts.

Because: a) it's very expensive, so you dont want it pouring out all over your workshop floor and going to waste, and b) it stinks!

I'm pretty sure I got most of the bell housing bolts cracked off, gear linkeages still won't come off (haven't a clue how to remove them), driveshafts are stuck in (tried knocking them out but they don't wanna move, ruined the nuts and gotta replace them for better ones) so I'm gonna have to remove the driveshafts another way. Doubt I'm gonna have this engine done by Monday but still worth a go 😂

Gear linkages just pop off.  I found slipping an open ended spanner underneath to pry them off was usually most effective as it gives even pressure around the ball.

If you pop the wishbone ball joints off that will allow you to pull the driveshafts out of the gearbox while still stuck in the hubs.  You will need to remove the centre support bearing carrier from the engine if not pulling the shafts all the way out.
