Focus MK3 1000cc Ecoboostp Oil Filter

Featured Replies

Apologies in advance for this post. I can't find a previous post on this topic but if there is one that answers my question please feel free to point me in the right direction.

My oil pump needs to be replaced. My local Ford Dealership are telling me the work will take 11 to 12 hours. It's this correct?

If that is the case I don't really think it is worth having the work done.

Yes that's correct assuming they're replacing the wet timing belts at the same time.  It is usually the timing belts degrading that blocks the oil pump.

The cheaper alternative is just to replace the oil pump itself, taking a couple of hours, but the new pump will clog up again quickly if a degrading belt is the reason for failure.

Your post is confusing. Filter or Pump???

At that age the engine needs the wet cam belt changing and the wet oil pump belt changing, along with a pump and water pump.

If the oil pump has failed I would suggest the engine is scrap

Apologies. It is the pump that has failed.

That's not good.

Time to start looking for a new engine I would suggest.

Thanks for the responses. I feared this might be the case. The Ford garage quoted 2 hours work and booked it in but then phoned back to correct to 11 hours.

I've had the car since new so it's had a good run. And what I paid for it in 2012 now seems an incredible bargain.

There are companies who will supply and fit a brand new Ecoboost 1.0 engine for under £3200 (a lot less than what Ford will charge).

And lots of repairers seem to be springing up now, probably because early Ecoboosts are now 10 years +. Don't know anything about this one, but covers OP's area:
