Low battery warnings

Featured Replies

Hello

I've a 2014 s-max 2.0L diesel automatic.

In Feb I started to get Low Battery warnings. Bought a new battery. All good.

A week ago started again. Bought another believing the Feb one was a cheapie and dying. New battery giving same message!

AA says all is OK. I don't believe the batteries are at fault as I also have some transmission limited function errors. I've also put them on charge and they are maintaining charge. Voltage around 12.7 without load.

I tried using Forscan and its showing battery in car voltage dropping below 12.4v and during cranking to a low of 9.5v!

Where should I start looking with a multimeter, I'm wondering about a bad chassis connection somewhere. Where could I find appropriate wiring diagrams?

Any advice much appreciated!

That's quite normal for any battery during start.

Your cars charging system is programmed to only charge the battery to a maximum of 80% no matter what you do, or how far you drive. It's all in the name of emissions and saving the dolphins.

Assuming that you have the correct Amp Hour battery fitted and that you are using a Smart battery charger correctly connected to the vehicle chassis (not the negative battery terminal) then all should be good. At this time of year as we head in to colder weather and dark mornings/nights you will most probably need to charge your battery every 6 weeks or so.
