Recurring fault with emissions sensor / check engine light

Featured Replies

Has anyone any advice or come across this problem before? I have a 2020 Ford Ecosport and about a year into having it, the check engine light came on. The emissions sensor was cleaned by Ford and the light went off, it came on again after a few thousand miles and Ford said they would change the sensor if it happened again. The sensor has now been replaced at least twice but the light keeps coming back on. The garage has asked for a report from Ford but that just came back as " reset the software", which had been done already. Neither reseting the software or changing the emissions sensor resolves the problem and the light has just come back on for the eighth time. Any ideas?

Luckily, I have an extended warranty to take me into 2025.

Hi Kathy. That is a strange one. The good thing is you've gone straight to Ford with the issue and they are fully aware of it.

I'd ask them hypothetical question like "what if this issue continues for the next few years, will you still do what's needed to repair it free of charge after my extended warranty runs out"?

Will do, I can't see it resolving by itself.

I also don't know if any further damage will be done to the car as I am regularly driving it with the warning light on. According to the Motor Ombudsman I can request a like for like exchange, which I think I might look into.

Hi Kathy. Because the Ford dealer has done quite a bit to resolve the issue that indicates that the car is ok to keep driving But because the light keeps appearing it is having a detrimental effect on You.

Therefore with you contacting the ombudsman I suggest you take that option and get a like for like replacement.

Best of luck that you'll getva replacement 🫰

Thank you - In a previous thread from someone with what looks like the same problem, someone suggested the nitrous oxide trap so I'll suggest that when I go in.
