Fiesta zetec 2006 speedo not working and mileage disappears

Featured Replies

Hi there.

I have a 2006 fiesta zetec 1.25 recently the abs light has been on the dash I have changed both rear abs rings on the drums and it's still on so I'm assuming it's a sensor that's gone but after I had changed both the rings and was taking it a test drive and after I got up to 5 mph the handbrake light came on, the speedo stopped working, milage disappeared and the engine management light came on. You turn the car off and back on again and everything's fine again (abs is still on) till I start moving again and get up to 5mph and the speedo stops, mileage disappears, handbrake and engine management light comes on car still goes fine though. Thanks for any help in advance.

All of those things rely on the ABS sensors.

Sounds like replacing the ABS rings has made things worse.  Are they definitely fitted correctly?  Why did you think the rings were faulty?

Ultimately you need proper diagnostics to at least confirm which wheel is at fault.

I was changing a wheel bearing and it came with a new ring so I fitted that and the abs came on.  I assumed that the new one was damaged when I put it on so I got another one and replaced it. When the abs light was still on I decided it might be the other side that's faulty so used the other new one now that I know it wasn't faulty and put it on and that's when things started not working. I'm sure they're both fitted correctly as they were both pushed down with a soft rubber malet. I'll get it plugged into a computer soon to find out what it says.

Thanks

Hmm, as the light only came on after fitting the first new ring, that has to be the issue.  It's either the wrong part, or not fitted correctly, or the ABS sensor was damaged in the process.  The other side may now also be incorrect as well.

My money would still be on incorrect fitting.  The sensor ring has to be as close as possible to the sensor but without touching it.  There really isn't much tolerance with these.
