Where's the best place to sell a personalised plate?

Featured Replies

I have my dads old plate on a retention document but would like to sell it, I've never bought or sold plates before, does anyone know a good place to sell through?

Well you could start by listing it here, tell us what the registration is. Perhaps someone here will make you an offer.

Having never had a private plate I have no experience but personally I would go to all the sellers on the Internet and go with whoever offers the most.

Id rather go where there are plenty of bidders to get the best price if I can.

Yeah I've found some but as I'm dealing with plates and money I wanted to avoid anywhere dodgy.

I'm sure that any company that crops up on the first page of a Google search would be OK, Regtransfers, for example have been going for 40 years so should be quite trustworthy I would imagine.

A private plate keeps runnimg thru my mind and i do search but never found one for me, It would need to be either my name on here or Nickname "Jimps"

J1 MPS would be ideal.  Not assigned to a car currently.  But not for sale as far as I can see.

There's no J prefix for current plates at all so would have to be the older style.

thats what i found poss even settle for a 5 instead of an S. Cant even find if its already owned. style immaterial just something along those lines.

The plate I want is a bit of my league!

TU12RVY Regtransfers want over £11000 for it!

Yeah, It's weird there doesn't seem to be a quick way of checking whether a plate is already owned if not assigned to a car.  Think you can ask DVLA directly though, might be worth trying them.

Can't have a single 5 at the end of any dated UK plate.  Dateless plates are only up to 4 digits I think.  And there's no 'JIM' on Northern Ireland plates either.  Sadly the style does restrict how close you can actually get to names.

i could add 61 as D.O.B
