Has my radio died?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

New member here - looking for some guidance.

My 2010 Focus Sport has the satnav radio fitted - just like the one in the picture attached. Since the start of last week the radio shows no sign of life, no power at all.

I've checked and replaced the 15A fuse in slot 112 of the fuse panel under the passenger-side glovebox. Later on today I will try disconnecting the battery and reconnecting, to see if that works.

Some say there is a fuse on the radio headunit itself. Can anyone confirm this please?

Cheers

Si

Update - found and changed the 15A fuse in the back of the radio unit. But still no life in it!

Try F108

Thanks Tom,

I've just tried a new 7.5A fuse in 108 but it didn't work - no power to the radio unit.

Might see if I can find an auto electrician and see if we can discover if power is still getting to the radio. If it is, I guess the unit is dead?

Cheers

Seems a sound conclusion...

You don't need to pay auto-electrician labour for that.  Just need a multimeter and a quadlock pinout to determine which wire is power.  If you don't have a multimeter, I'm sure you'll know someone that does.

Hi.
I had the same issue as you.
That radio has a common problem with the IC Memory Chip inside.
I replace both chips with spare from a DDR 2 memory.

Worked well after.
And that problem drain my battery too.

Take a look below.
You have memory type in description.

Thanks everyone.

I've got my hands on a multimeter and will test the connection. Its my first time doing this, I've watched a couple of videos on Youtube.

Does anyone know, is the ground going to be grey/black, the live yellow and the ignition feed red (or red/white)?

Cheers

You need a quadlock pinout diagram.  Colours can't be relied on with modern cars.

Thanks everyone. In the end I persuaded a colleague to let me poke about with his 2007 Focus and we swapped my radio in to his car. Its completely lifeless when plugged in to his car.

Time for a new headunit - I appreciate the information on the memory chip replacement @paul.pet 👍 but its beyond my skill set.

Cheers
