2009 fiesta starting problems

Hi everyone,

My ‘09 fiesta (1.4 petrol) occasionally takes a while to turn over on first key turn but always starts. however when turning the key it makes strange sounds (either flat sound or a ‘chugging’ sound). the problem also happens very randomly on both cold and warm starts, so im not really sure what it could be. any suggestions?

    Sounds like the starter motor is failing.  Battery and battery cables should be checked first before condemning the motor.
