Focus MK2 2.0TDCi - Randomly doesn't start during cold.

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,
I have a weird issue that starts occurring during the cold season. The issue is that the car sometimes won't start on the first go, what I mean by that is I'll turn the key, and the engine is turning over but it's really really struggling to start and eventually just dies if I stop turning the key. If turn it off and turn it on again straight away then it comes on straight away. This issue happens randomly. There are times the car starts perfectly in like -12C and then the issue happened today at like +6C, after I refueled and when to start the car(it happened a couple of times after refueling). Glowplugs are good and I have a brand-new battery. Does anyone have any clue?
Apart from that the car runs perfect

Are you waiting 4 or 5 seconds after turning the ignition on, before trying to start the engine ? With an older diesel engine you might need to give the glowplugs time to fully heat before trying to start.

I am yes. I turn the ignition on and wait for all symbols to turn off. Especially the glow plug symbol and then start the car.
