Possibly more of a Vet thing than a garage 🤣

What engine have you got ? What are the fault codes ? How many miles has the car done ?

Could be just the turbo actuator, or it could be the turbo is worn out. Probably @TomsFocus would be able to offer better advice on this.

On that engine I'd suspect the electronic turbo actuator.

It may have been damaged by sticky turbo vanes though.

Easy DIY test, just remove the clip and unhook the actuator from the turbo, then check you can move the vanes freely when disconnected.

Could you explain where the actuator is please? Couldn't find anything that looked similar

The actuator should be on the turbo itself on the 2.2 TDCI.  It's a small box with a plastic back and a moving rod on the front.  The moving rod controls the VNT vanes inside the turbo, so if you can disconnect the rod from the box, then you can manually move the vanes in & out with your fingers.  I'm not sure what access is like on the S-Max, my experience with this engine is in a Mondeo.

Were they any more specific?

Vanes choked with carbon deposits or turbine shaft bearing worn?  Turbo's rarely just break in my experience.  You can double check both of those things yourself if you can access the turbo on the S-Max.

Yesterday he checked and cleaned most things and vanes etc he did mention vanes but I don't know what and where. He ordered the pressure sensor as thought it was that, then today he rang to say that didn't fix the issue and said its the turbo, he mentioned the actuator and said there was some movement but also some other things I just don't understand unfortunately I'm no mechanic, his also a friend of my partners so I dnt think he would be making it up!
