Tailgate Hinge Removal Process?

Featured Replies

I've noticed that one of my boot hinges is loose and flexes unlike the other one, is there a way to remove these because I can't see where they are bolted on. I've felt underneath the roof line and can feel a thread but no bolt.

I'd like to remove it since a while ago my tailgate became misaligned with the body of the car due to some dodgy auto boot openign springs i bought a while ago which when the boot closed forced it to coem out of alignment.

its a hidden captive nut, when i changed my tailgate over i used a 10mm socket and the butt of my claw hammer to apply leverage to adjust. May take a couple of attempts to get it right.

I'm not sure i quite understand, I have tried to use the two bolts to adjust where the tailgate sits but i think the issue is the hinge itself is moving, and i can see a thread that the hinge screws onto, would i need to undo the two bolts on the bootlid and then turn the hinge to screw it in?

I've got a video of my situation here, how would i tighten it so it does not move or is that even possible?

I suspect that the hinge pin is worn or damaged. You may have to replace the hinge, which means you will have to pull the head lining down to access the fixing bolt.

okay, i'm just glad that there is a way of doing it, i guess i'm going to have to remove lots of trim to pull the back of the headliner down and see if i can get the bolt tight. Thanks for the image thats also helped me.

Did you find a way to access the lose screw?

I am in the same situation. Possibly after replacing gas struts with a non oem pair, delivering more power to the tailgate lift.

Should somebody release the rear plasics on the columns, or the ceiling is flexible enough, to reach the screws just by releasing the two plastic pins on the ceiling?
