Got me a heated seat!

Featured Replies

A few years back, I had occasion to rent a car for a week which had heated seats, she simply loved them and always reminisces how great that rental car was 'those seats'. Well, middle aisle Lidl came up trumps this week, and for £13, bought a heated seat cover. The only design issue I had was that all the electronics were mounted on the LHS so from the drivers seat you just can't reach them. It also takes about 30w so I didn't want to plug it into my 12v 'extension sockets' as it would blow them.

She has given the heat output rave reviews! LOL

So I finally have used the 'useless' permanently live 12v socket in the center binnacle below the radio, and to ensure I don't forget to unplug it, I got an 'extension' cable which has the most handiest switchable on/off rocker, so I'll not forget to turn it off as the seat red LED plug is now right in my eyeline.

This makes sure I don't leave it on...

they work great 😀

only issue is the socket on the car

1) appears to stay powered - but I believe it times out after 7 mins or so (mk2.5 later electrics)
2) the silly socket on hers slips out of the dash trim and she shorts it out popping the fuse - need to sort that

I bought an ebay kit that goes under the seat covers (never fitted it) - carbon fibre heat mats (two per seat) - and a posh 5 way switch - that's split driver and passenger, and its illuminated - seems the covers slip on an off easily.  They are peanuts

On my elderly Mk2, it doesn't time out at all, and remains permanently live. Hence the 'switched' socket adapter I got which is fab as it allows me a very simple and accessible on/off switch which as long as I don't forget (!) will let me return to the car without a flat battery 🤣

(Pulling the socket in & out all the time is too much hassle as the space is very tight & not conducive for fat fingers...)
