Boot lock faulty for 3rd time!! But need advice.

I've had enough of cheap Chinese cr*p from eBay and want to buy a genuine Ford handle. However, the Ford one seems to need a bit of loom that the cheap one comes with. I can't find the cable anywhere online, what am I looking for?

Cheap one

Those are two different handles.  The loom only comes with the top type, not available separately.

This is the loom for the bottom type, but I'm not sure whether it's compatible with your model.  (**Edit - It isn't.  This is for keyless entry models  )

Mine came from eBay with a lifetime guarantee, which i used when one of the plastic spring clips snapped.

This seems to be the one, I can get the 'handle' for £30, now if anyone knows where i can get that bit of loom from the red socket, we could be on to something 😁

Normally that would be my 'go to' but these locks are made from some paper mache type material, so am pretty sure a genuine used one will have an operating life span of a cheap eBay one! 😂

The loom only comes as part of the handle assembly from Ford.  It doesn't have a separate part number in the catalogue.

Only choices are buying the handle and loom together or buying the loom used from a breaker.

Think I'll end up buying part no. 1857085 you suggested above. Shows how annoyed I am, forking out £63 on a part commonly sold for £10 🤣

Well I'm just flabbergasted, never thought I see the day! 🤣

So how much have you spent on that car these last few weeks ?

I had this same problem last year. I bought a used genuine switch and lead from an ebay breakers. They charged £9.99 for the two.

The cable could be reused again if the genuine new switch fails.

Ford did tell me when I contacted them that they could supply the lead separately at a cost of £78 for just the lead.

Just realised I have a spare cheap eBay handle in garage, ever the pessimist! LOL Well it'll give me more time to get a proper one which I'll be needing again in a few months 🤣

  • 3 weeks later...

I think this place is a jinx, my rubber boobie decided to fail the other-day, water ingress i believe, contacted RTG-group whom i bought my replacement who sold it with a lifetime warranty {tho noted its now 5 years} They messaged this morning apologising and asking for my address to send a replacement.

Well you certainly can't complain about that! The cheap Ebay one I last used had a 2 year warranty, so on contacting them, they just refunded me the original purchase price. Hopefully the genuine Ford one I now have fitted will last a bit longer...
