Pulley Chirp, just done belt / tensioner / Alternator

Featured Replies

Got a weird chirp going on from car.  Replaced Aux Belt / Air Con Belt and Tensioner with Gates Kit when purchased a year ago.  Had a new alternator on it when I bought it but it isn't genuine Motorcraft as electrics pulse at night during tickover.

Usually when cold and ticking over but slowly starting to do it a bit more often when warmed up.  I sleep in car a fair bit so starting engine and ticking over for 20 minutes at a time to get heat into car during winter.

Here's a link to a yt video.

Any ideas, thanks in advance all ;

I seem to recall that there is a simple fix for that. The issue if I remember correctly is that the positive Sense wire from the alternator goes via a fuse. As the car gets older the fuse holder connections become high resistance which causes the alternator output to fluctuate. The problem is very noticeable with the High Beam headlights on.

There was a Ford TSB and a 'kit' to fix the issue. The repair was to connect the sense wire from the alternator plug to the main positive feed between the alternator and battery. There is some info here on the forum but it will be difficult to find.

The bulletin number was TSB 053/2001 Part number for this cable - 1133503

The squeak is probably the alternator pulley or the belt is a little out of align.

Many thanks for the info on the + sense fix.  Will have a look at that.  The alternator is a cheapo, seller told me it was just a cheap fit so he could get the car through M.O.T. to sell it.  At least he was upfront.  I take it worst case scenario is belt will prematurely wear by fraying on edge or alternator bearing will seize?  any fix for aligning it properly?  seem to recall it was just tensioner for adjustment.  thanks again.
