MK1 flexifuel fault codes help

Featured Replies

Hello, i have a Ford Focus MK1 2001 flexifuel 1.6L 16v and ive got some fault codes i cant figure out.

Few days ago i was driving home from my parents and suddently the engine light came on, i plugged my cheap OBD2 reader in and checked with my phone i got 4 codes and only 1 of them i know and its P0172 its running rich.

The car runs fine except when i just start it runs a bit rough on idle for like a minute, and on low RPM's it sometimes missfires/hickups, otherwise the car runs great, i run on 95 octane fuel (swedish regular) but a few weeks ago i accidentally put 20 litres of E85 in the tank (was tired and shouldnt have drove at all :P) and it ran like ***** for 3 mins but thats normal i guess since it will adjust to E85, but after that i went back on 95 and it ran good like before, i had some missfires on low RPMs even before that but it got worse after the E85 went trough the system.

The codes i have are:

P0172

P00D4

C3200

U1401

Edit: oh and yes, ive tried googling but google being google and showing codes for cars that arent even ford so.

Hey, I got a flexfuel model too, so I wonder did you manage to fix the problem? I haven't had such problem myself though so I can't help you out with it:(

Nope not yet. i dont even know where to begin, first i thought "maybe its the MAF sensor" but theres no cable or connector going to the inlet tube that runs down to the throttle body.

So ive just been doing like 40/60 mix of E85 and regular 95 petrol. and it runs okay, if i clear the codes it works for a few days then randomly my check engine comes on and OBD reader tells me it runs rich on bank 1,

It is very likely that it would be a sensor fault, as far as I know and tried every time when you switch from gasoline to ethanol or opposite the ECU detects it and sets up the fuelling table.
And yeah our models does not have a MAF, but we have Manifold Absolute Pressure or MAP sensor. Its either on the left side of air intake manifold( if its not between 1st and 2nd pipe you may find it after taking off the generator) or some say to the right of air intake manifold, bellow the pcv valve(Mine has a blanking plate there). Mine is located on the left side, so thats all I can do for you. So if I would be you I would look for a sensor of a scrap flexifuel focus and try to switch it and see if it helps.

I might be talking nonsense, but I hope it will give you some leads. Also found some reference photos for you. Good luck:)

Hey man, first off all sorry for not replying back but stuff happened in my life that took prio over my car and eventually i actually forgot i posted here. Second, thank you so much for this info and the pictures, ive seen that thing and thought "oh nah thats just the idle controller" but now ill definetly try replacing it, cus like u said the ECU sets up a fuel table each time i change, and if the MAP sensor is faulty i guess it gets stuck on one fuel table or it like doesnt set the table correctly for the fuel. So yeah, months later but thank you again ill check this and come back if it works or not 🙂
