2018 automatic gear box problems

Featured Replies

new to this forum, has anyone had problems with a ford transit automatic gearbox 2018?

  • 1 year later...

I'm having problems with my 2018 custom automatic transmission just now, can intermittently make knocking grinding noises, no pattern to it only doing it in particular gear, can happen in any!

Was yours similar by any chance and did you get to the bottom of it?

That's a very old single post member which never got answered.
Hopefully someone will come along soon.
How many miles, any more details of conditions when it happens (sounds quite serious)

Is there a way to check the oil or filter  or inspect a sample for metallic bits (if any of that is possible - I have no clue about that gearbox)?

Took it to a local garage and turns out it was my driver side drive shaft and bearing and all good now, turns out the bearing was in bits and worst he's seen! Yet I had van jacked up when noise originally started and nothing to indicate play in the bearing, I've had bearings go before and I've always had that 'tell tale' rumble coming from them which gets louder longer you leave it, only indication from this thing was an awful grinding noise it would periodically make!
Mechanic said he did one couple months before mine that was making a whistling noise when pulling away, but would clear by time had bit of speed up and into 3rd gear!? They all thought is wasn't the bearing till they stripped it back and that one was knackered too!
So it seems they don't go the way a bearing used to go traditionally!🤷‍♂️
Anyhow, all good now and delighted it wasn't the gearbox.
