Focus mildHybrid battery voltage

Hello,

i have a Ford Focus 1.0 MildHybrid 125 HP, in which I installed an anti-theft GPS tracker in the summer. This device also has a sensor that measures battery voltage. For the past 2 months, I've been getting often a message in the tracker app while driving that the battery voltage is above the limit. When I turn on the engine and stand still the voltage is normally 14.8V, but when I move, probably when the 48V battery activates to power up the engine, I get 15.1 to 15.2V displayed. With the engine off it's usually 12.6V . Are these prices normal in winter for a mild hybrid? Is there a problem with the generator/alternator?

I'd have a word with the dealer you got the car from or from Ford customer services.

Hi George,

I don't know how accurate these trackers are voltage wise. I have a Rewire DB2 fitted to mine. Yesterday I was sat in the car waiting for, her who must be obeyed, and while the car was idling I checked my tracker on my mobile and it gave a voltage of 15.8 volts. Later in the day after the car had been stationary for about six hours the tracker was showing a voltage of 12.56 volts. This afternoon 24 hours stationary it shows 12.46 volts. Usually after about a week stationary it will show around 12.37 volts. Before any asks, did I mean 14.8 volts not 15.8 volts, no. Thats why I mentioned accuracy at the start.

It can go up to 16v+ after a cold start.  That's what the SmartCharge system does as a cold battery charges more efficiently than a hot one.

Myself and the family have the same trackers fitted to all our vehicles. The reported battery voltage is surprisingly accurate, although the reported readings can be 15 to 20 minutes late.

Looking at our vehicles just now, my own car is 12.67V. The Focus RS which has been unused for 3 days is at 12.35V. The Kuga which not been used today is 12.37V and the Horsebox is currently on charge and showing 14.13V. So on the face of it I'd say the DB2 trackers seem to do a good job of reporting the battery voltage. I have checked them against a multimeter in the past and found the error to be less than 0.05V

Thanks for the accuracy update I feel a lot happier now.

Thank you for your answers. I really hope that there is nothing wrong with the alternator. It will be very expensive if i need to change it.
