Coolant pump replacement - Ecoboost 2.0L

Featured Replies

It seems like my previous assumption that the coolant leak was coming from a hose dripping onto the accessory belt was incorrect. It looks like the leak is coming from the pump itself, dripping onto the belt and spraying everywhere.

As far as I can tell, the replacement procedure is fairly straightforward:

  • Remove Right headlamp, wheel and wheel arch lining.
  • Drain coolant from radiator
  • Loosen pump pulley bolts
  • loosen tensioner and remove belt
  • remove pulley
  • loosent pump bolts and pry out old pump
  • grease seal on new pump and install etc
  • refill coolant

If anyone who has done this service has advice on this, I would be most appreciative.

Well, this was quite a bugger of a job as there's very limited space to maneuver. An electric socket wrench with a small head would have been very helpful. It might be faster to remove the upper engine mount which is in the way as opposed to cursing every five seconds.

Here's a few other notes: The 2.0 ecoboost uses the stupid external  spring tensioner that traps the belt. Requires a 1/2 in socket.

The only way I could access the radiator drain port was by removing the two radiator support bolts on that side and dropping it down a bit.

All in all another job that is easy on many cars and a farkin headache on this one.
