Key Immobiliser help Fiesta MK7

Featured Replies

Looking for someone who could share some knowledge on this one;

I dropped my flip out key for my fiesta, and it since won’t start the engine (it unlocks & locks, so still programmed, but the immobiliser light flashes constantly for around a minute, then 3 flashes in between blank periods).

I have a second key (manual & non flip out) that starts the engine fine.

I’m guessing I’ve somehow broken the immobiliser chip in key 1?

Being quoted £140+VAT by auto-locksmiths who claim it’ll be a new key.

Is there any way I can buy a new chip myself and programme it?

Thanks

Dropping the keyfob is very unlikely to have broken the passive transponder chip, they are incredibly robust. Did the keyfob come apart when you dropped it ?

In theory it should still be possible for you to be able to programme a 2012 vehicle, something which can't be done with 2013 onwards.

Can you post a photo of the keyfob so we can see which version you have ?

Thanks @unofix
Pics attached. It was a hard drop - the key did break apart, however nothing snapped. The circuit board was still inside it's casing and I simply plugged the key back together.
Thanks

Ignore me! Turns out the transponder chip had actually fallen out and I hadn't realised. Just found it and it works properly again

Ah!!!!

I have a feeling that the tiny little transponder chip is a separate item in those style of fobs and it has probably fallen out. They are only about 8mm long and are not held in or connected to anything.

That's great! Why can't I be that lucky when I drop stuff?😀
