ForScan - now redundant?

Featured Replies

Just got notification of club discount on a Carly OBD scanner. I've seen them promoted before on YouTube but never paid any attention to them. Must confess I like the idea of error codes being in, 'english' rather than obscure number references. Are they any good especially for non tech guys like me?

Would depend on cost over a lead and yearly subscription. And if it does what it says on the tin. Not from the prices ive seen

Aahhh, I see. Didn't realise there was an annual subscription fee LOL Kinda like a Peleton bike where eejits pay monthly to sit on a training bike and have another eejit shout at them through their telly! Nope, not for me then - long live ForScan!

Personally I'll be staying with FORScan. If Carly would like me to evaluate their product then they can always send me one for free 🤣🤣

IIRC there used to be a free version that worked with generic (ELM327?) odb dongles 🤔.

Nice to know there’s a discount there if it’s ever needed, but one for those fixing vehicles all the time than those of us who just look after their own car  I’d say.

From what I've read on BMW forums it doesn't even do half of what it says it does.

Just a glorified torque pro app

I bought the paid version of forscan a few years back - but never quite had it with me when required

my sisters 2014 Focus petrol turbo Mk3 went down with a mega misfire, I think was a MAF but she threw the car away instead of buy one to try for £30 in stock at her local euro car parts store 2 miles away !!! - and now her jag X type 2.2 tractor won't start throwing P1000 (can't complete self check) and other codes for the EGR being odd

Not sure if its Ford or the tools... but 3k snap on scanner with latest software and a decent autel one give ALMOST NOTHING to help in either scenario

can't believe these tools are so pathetic - giving nothing more than a fake free phone app can achieve !!!

I got a marketing email from, 'Carly' this morning, which I find odd, as I never gave them my email address. Did the FOC hand over a member database to them?

Well if they did, I hope they gave them my home address so they know where to post my free evaluation unit too 🤣🤣

Carly can do more on certain vehicles but I believe you have to buy a vehicle license - i.e. premium for Ford won't let you do premium for BMW as an example.

It's still pretty limited in what it can actually do, it can't do any coding/programming for Ford, and although for the first year you're talking £40, each year you continue the subscription its £126 a year. If you want another model of car, I believe it's the same again, so 2x £126 per year.

Forscan, although it requires a PC, is £12 for a years extended license.

A K-DCan cable and INPA from eBay is around £30 lifetime.

Carly would have to be able to diagnose and fix my car itself for the amount they charge!

EDIT:

Interesting watch...

The phone versions of Forscan are about a £6 one-off fee with free upgrades for life.

You can't do programming with it though but can do almost everything else and for logging Live Data on long runs on public roads which version to use is a no brainer.

I was really hoping that now that the iPhone 15 series has USB-C, I would be able to use my vLinker FS USB cable with the iOS app but I suspect this isn't the case and I'll have to buy a wifi adapter as well.

I have heard of people using the Android version with a Wired Adapter and with an OTG adapter.

I  don't know if iPhones support OTG or not.

iPhones support USB OTG, but I don't know if this class of device is supported, or how the app would be able to load the driver for it.
