Boot lights

Featured Replies

I replaced my single boot light with 2 led panels tucked under the tail cover thing rails. Had an issue with my rear lights behaving erratically hopefully solved today with a new LED brake stop bulb, but my white LED's inside the boot are very dim.

Have ordered 2 new panels cheap as chips incase they're at fault, but as its fed from the boobie switch or the actual latch should i look at changing them i only really wanna take it to bits once in this weather.

Thanks for any and all advice.

Any chance you could temporarily give the 'dim' bulbs a fresh feed of 12V? That would soon tell you if they were faulty, or not getting a proper 12v supply...

I changed my headlight bulbs to led and it played havoc with the electrical system. The engine was missing, sometime lights worked and sometimes they didn't. I fitted the old bulbs back, reset and all now resolved. My car is a 12 plate Ecoboost.

If rear lights are erratic - I would look for an earthing problem.

my mech said it was a faulty stop/brake bulb hence buying new ones

How exactly were your rear lights erratic ? Was it just your stop/tail affected ? Or did you replace Incandescent stop/tail with LEDs to "cure" the fault?

If other lights are dim, then that might point to a poor earth. but are the boot lights not controlled by a GEM ?  And not directly by a microswitch so that might affect your Boot LEDs.

I have LED bootlights in Fiesta, Fusion, and my '08 Focus to dispel the Stygian gloom in the boots !

when lights were on and i braked and indicated left the left hand cluster went squiffy. I already had LED's as i had to go brighter due to being tinted they worked fine for just over 12 months.

You have a high resistance earth on the left rear light cluster. Use a digital multimeter and measure the resistance between the lamp holder earth's and the body work, it should be almost zero ohms.

Cheers squire a great help as all the wires are coloured black, Ford in their wisdom.

I'd look for E6, LH rear lamps, in luggage compartment.

E6 also appears to be the boot lamps.
