Mk3 1.6 TDCI - broken front coil spring

Featured Replies

Hi,

Driver's side front coil spring has broken, and the broken end is sticking out and fouls the inner wing when turning hard right. Obviously that needs to be fixed. The question is, should I also replace the other fron spring?  Or if it's arguable, are there signs thst can be spotted suggesting the other might be likely to fail?  Mileage is just over 140,000 miles. We only got the car recently, there are a bunch of bills from former owners but I can't see anything suggesting other springs have been replaced.

My rule of thumb is always change suspension, steering and brake components in pairs for balance

If you're on a shoestring or about to move the car on then there's no need to replace both together.  I've done plenty of singles.

But at 140k, if you're intending to keep the car for a while, it would be best to do both.
