? ? Insulation ? ?

Featured Replies

Condiments of the seasoning one & all.

Thought a small piece of bubblewrap had snagged on something under the car; but it seems to be very thin lightweight foil with thin sponge/fibre.  Located approx just aft of the h/brake mounting.

Might this be insulation of some sort, & for what?  Is it vital?  Appreciate any advice.

It might be a heat shield, the clips don't last forever ....

Thanks for that.  I'm unable to get under the car, and not familiar with the layout there.  Could anyone advise, if this foil sheet/shield catches on the ground & gets pulled off, could it damage any sensor/wiring or anything else in that location?  Thanks for help.

I doubt it but I'm not entirely sure.

If a Heat Shield is missing and an MOT Tester notices that it is missing then the car could fail an MOT, it depends on the whether the Tester thinks it being missing is a problem.

Correct.

Looking at the last two replies, and considering that you cannot yourself get underneath, you could take the car to an exhaust place, and ask them to have a look at it up in the air ?

It is the easiest of repairs. Happened to me last year, took it to my 'tyre/exhaust' place, and they reinstated a self tapper - no charge...

Thanks for the pointers, chaps.  I'll get to it tomorrow.

got a carrier bag stuck under mine, stunk for weeks as it had bonded to the exhaust.

Hope it was an "M&S" one, "Not Just Any" 🤣

"M&S" - Mud and Slush ?

It's surprising what can get stuck under your car. In 1982 (!) I worked in a shopping center and parked in the rear loading bay. My new Fiesta XR2 got some extremely strong nylon webbing trapped under it which I didn't notice, it eventually wore out the clutch!

It was a Harrods one "actually" hahaha nah binbag

If I ever had a Harrods bag melt on my exhaust, it would be the most expensive bit on my car LOL
