Domestic radiator bleeding query...

Featured Replies

I have been bleeding radiators all my life, so when an elderly neighbour asked me to look at their bathroom one, I popped round with my trusty radiator key. Can't actually see the bleed valve as it's mounted very close to a wall, but couldn't get purchase at all with key. I took a photo of it.

Am I correct in my assumption this is just a standard slot screw which an ordinary flathead screwdriver will fit, and a standard lefty loosy thread to bleed it?

One of ours was recently replaced with one similar to that. Screwdriver as you suggest but (on ours at least) you need to grip the "ears" of the white plastic part to stop the whole thing turning when you loosen the screw.

Yes. The bleed key will also work, but it's a tight fit due to the plastic housing. I have the same valves, and a standard bleed key will fit with a bit of force/wiggling. Water will exit from a small hole in the plastic housing.
