Front shock absorbers Focus 2015 2.0 tdci

Featured Replies

Hi everyone. I have 2015 Focus titanium x 2.0tdci estate. Has anyone changed front shocks? I asked ford online, they don't have any for my car they said. Just been advised to call ford garages around to ask if they have any. But ford provided me with the part number- 2317513(rh) and 2317541(lh). So been looking online. It seems only Monroe does it. Monroe 742299sp/742298sp. I can't believe only Monroe  suitable.? I couldn't find genuine Monroe. I prefer Sachs or Bilstein. So contacted ZF Sachs. Tech support said sachs 315469/315470 for my car and please check the OE number for correct fitment. But it's not matching OE numbers. Authorised dealers don't have any instock. (In a past bought from amazon and ebay, it was bad quality fake).

Looked at Bilstein website. 2 types come up 22-217134/22-217141 and 22-256362/22-256379. But they still not matching OE numbers. Sent email to tech support, hopefully they will reply on Monday.

Never had a problem finding shock absorbers in a past. Did ford gave me wrong part number ? What so special about this shock absorbers. They not adjustable,  not ST, nor self leveling.

Replaying to my own topic. Bilstein dealer in London won't reply to my email and not answering calls, so it could be dodgy website.

In the end ordered sachs from autodoc. Hopefully shocks are genuine.

I'd contact a different ford dealer from outside your area. Try a few from different areas but always give your cars reg number. See if they all give the same part number.

I'll try to contact different ford dealer. I suspect they gave me the wrong part number as I got reply from Bilstein saying they don't do shocks for my car which matches OE numbers. Bizarre.

The problem with OE shocks (and springs) is that they are very finely tuned specifically to each engine, trim level, bodystyle, etc.

Aftermarket parts suppliers don't have the budget to spend on tooling and storage for all of the different OE options, so they just make one or two as a compromise.

There may be slight differences in ride height, comfort or handling with an aftermarket pair, but they will still physically fit and most people wouldn't tell the difference.

Car has got 112k miles on it. I think front shocks run out of gas (oil still there), and definitely working unevenly. Ride is jittery and when stationary I can't compress front. So I hope new shocks will make it better. My wife has got kuga mk1, I put new Sachs all around while ago and I can easily compress all 4 corners to certain point.

Well, we will see how it's going to ride with new shocks when I have chance to replace them.

Try calling PartsPlus they are the parts supply arm of Ford and may be a bit more helpful than your local dealer.

Thanks. I'll give it a go

Rang Parts plus this morning. They confirmed part numbers 2317513/2317541. But it's none in stock. Have to preorder.

Now waiting for Sachs from autodock.

Update on shock absorbers.

I tried to fit sachs shocks today and they definitely don't fit. Diameter of the base where spring seats is different.

So back to the search

Update. Just finished changing front shock absorbers. In the end ordered original ones from parts+. Compering original and Sachs I think since sachs moved production to Turkey it's not as good as it's used to be. Ford ones are made I Poland.

At the moment car seats about 2" higher, hopefully it will stay that way.

Update on front shocks. Ride did approve little bit,  at least no more tramlining. It's quite as well. Only one problem, with suspension, still remains,  it's like driving a forklift. Very hard.

Does it have the optional 18" alloys?

Consider changing to the softer tyres 🤣

215/50/17. Currently on GoodYear efficient grip. Soft sidewall. Tyres probably done 5k miles.

We have Kuga mk1 and I can easily press the front of the car (shocks not that old as I replaced them) but focus, I can't push it even half an inch. It's more flexes on the tyres.

If you can't compress the front end of your car after you've fitted original ones then either the new shox are faulty or somehow the geometry of the suspension has gone adrift.

Are you sure you got genuine Ford shox?

Something not right that the car sits Two inches higher than before! I think you got the wrong shox.

First day it was up to 2 inches high compare to old ones. Now it sits like it used to be. Shocks are original Ford from Parts+. I did compress them by hands just to compare to old ones, and they were fine. I cleaned springs and checked for cracks. Is it possible the springs worn-out? On the speed over 40mph they working very well.

Previous owner just before selling a car installed rear ones. And rear end is bouncing more than I would like. When it gets warmer I want to check what brand of shocks at the back.

Finally got warmer. Managed to look at rear suspension.

Anyone who had a ride at the back of my car complained they feel sick, it not my driving. I think because front is so hard and rear is to soft. If I go over the bump with front wheels it's the back end gets the hit and trying to absorb the bump. Car seats leveled.

So got under the car (car is on ramps). Trailing arm bushes not totally dead but will need replacing. Shock absorbers has been replaced last year by previous owner. Took them off, they both even and still stiff when compressing. Quality of shocks bit questionable,  it's  CD brand which I never heard of. What you think about this brand?

But springs are weird,  could be broken, top is hard to see. What's weird about springs I can move them by hand like it's no compressing on them and they are loose but all weight of the car is pushing. I attached some pictures. So going to replace springs and trailing arm bushes. Not sure about shocks.
