New to the Focus and I have a couple of questions ....

Featured Replies

Hey all,

This is my first post on the forum and I'm also new to owning a Ford! I've just purchased a lovely little Ford Focus ST Line X (69 plate) and I have a couple of questions if I may? I'm hoping you knowledgable people can help me.

1) I have the standard "yellow" halogen bulbs on it, with white running lights and I'm looking to get white head lights dimmed & full beam to complete the look. How easy is it to do this? Am I looking at converting them to Xenon headlights or is it as simple as buying a few bulbs? If I do need to convert it, how easy is that process?

2) I came out of a Volvo XC40 with extremely light steering and I'm struggling to adapt to the heavier steering on the Focus. I've gone through all of the settings and cannot see there is an option to adjust the steering sensitivity. Granted, it does have the big alloys on the it so I'm assuming this is just something I'm stuck with however I wondered whether there might be a way to lighten the steering a tad? Or is it a case of getting smaller alloys (bigger tyres)?

Many thanks in advance for your time!

B

1. If you want ice white lights you'll need to upgrade to Xenon or LED.  Both are technically illegal.

2. No way to change steering weight on Mk4 unfortunately.  (Could be done on some Mk2's).  However most people find it too light, so I'm wondering whether there's a fault with yours.

Thanks for the reply mate. I'm not looking for ice white really, just the standard modern looking bulbs you see on the newer models if you see what I mean? As for the steering, yeah it's certainly not light so I may take it back to the dealer and have a word. I expected a little heavier steering due to the size of the wheels, but it's more the fact that the self-centering seems to be quite weighty.

Changing the type of headlight/bulb from the type the car was built with is now illegal in the UK and it has been added to the list of things to be checked when the car is MOT'd.

The option that some people have gone for is to fit LED bulbs from AutoBeam. They are still illegal to use in the UK but many MOT testing stations seem not to notice them.
