Replacement windscreen and battery problems

Featured Replies

I just had my chipped heated windscreen replaced on my insurance. Drove it the same evening without an issue, but when I came to start it 48 hours later the battery was dead. Haven't had any issues with the battery until now, and there was nothing left on.

Is it reasonable to assume that the windscreen fitter may have shorted something to drain the battery?  I know that he had to get behind the interior light to connect the heating element, and broke some clips that haven't been replaced yet (despite them saying they would send someone out).

Any ideas for a short term solution over Christmas? Would removing the fuse for the heated windscreen help maybe?

Get it back under warranty.

As stated, take it back to windscreen place for a check up, but certainly as a temp measure over the festivities, if it were me, yes, I'd disable it by removing fuse...

Very unlikely as the Heated Front Screen will only operate when the engine is running. At all other times the power to the screen is off, even when the switch for the heated front screen is on.

By all means remove the fuse(s) for the heated front screen but as I've already said there is only power to the screen when the engine is running.

Just had a thought, he may have knocked the interior light switch to be permanently on, which may not have been noticed in daylight. Could be that that was the drain on your battery...
