Focus mk4 can’t start car

Featured Replies

Hey everyone.

whilst driving the car came up saying key not detected (only changed the battery a few days ago) then when I stopped and turned the car off it asked for the key to start the car, so I just turned it on and off a few times with the button.

Come back to the car after work, fob opens the car, press the clutch and the light comes on however the car will not start. No messages on the dash except to tell me the parking break is applied.

Tried placing the key in the Center console buttons up but nothing. Also used the key on the outside to access the car, even though the fob opens and closes the car and still nothing and im at a total loss PLEASE HELP

Have you tried the spare key?

Have you put the key in the backup position shown in the manual?

Rubber mat removed, and buttons facing up.

Yes I have tried both of these things and no luck. Forgot to mention that even if I press the start button without pressing the clutch there’s no message asking to press the clutch

That would suggest that your car battery State Of Charge may be very low. Use a multimeter and measure the voltage at the battery terminals.
