Flat car battery & can't release bonnet.

Featured Replies

Hi, 2021 car, total dead electrically. Managed to open driver door with key, But can't open passenger door to give enough room ton allow bonnet release catch  to pull... Madness. Any advice on either getting passenger door open. Or accessing bonnet release cable etc to pop bonnet to investigate / charge battery.. THANKS

There's a clip in the handle that you're meant to remove.  Though I found mine could be opened with the door closed anyway.

See Ford owners handbook page 406 & 407.

Although as Tom has said you can just pull the handle out a little towards the drivers side which enables it to pull past the passenger door.

Thanks Tom and unofix. I have it open. As you said it can be pulled away from the inner door frame just enough to pop it.. Unfortunately when messing earlier trying to pull the actual cable sleeve behind the sound proofing the cable has come out of its housing which it's pulled against.... Something else to sort.  Last question it's mild hybrid St line so I'm a little bit cautious about connecting a traditional battery charger.. Any advice please... Thanks

Just connect the battery charger in the normal way.  Red clip to red battery terminal.  Black clip to chassis ground point.

Hi, so now trying to charge the car battery but the alarm keeps going off...... Should I disconnect the battery and charge?   Is there a pin code or anything which will be affected by the disconnection of battery.... Or is there a way of isolating the alarm.. (car battery about flat so can't lock centrally or use any electrical functions/screens... 😭. Driving neighbours mad.... Thanks

No. Charge the battery while it is still connected to the vehicle. Make sure that the positive lead of the charger is connected directly to the battery positive terminal. The negative charger lead must be connected to the chassis earth point, NOT the battery negative terminal.

Charging will take at least 12 hours, and could even take up to 24 hours depending upon how discharged the battery has become. If it is less than 10 Volt then the chances are it has suffered permanent damage and it will never make a full recovery.

There are no codes on a 2023 vehicle. With battery voltage already being very low, the windows will have most likely already lost there 'one touch' function and will need reprogrammed once a fully charged battery is connected.

Thanks. ❤️. The cars actually late 2021, but doubt it will be much different? the problem is the Alarm is going off every  5  mins, lights stutter ( I can hear relays click under bonnet.) Is there a way to change on car connected with our alarm going off. The battery discharged and although inmnually opened the drivers door the other doors are locked andn, door mirrors folded. (I assume it thinks it's centrally locked and armed....

The 12v+ feed from the charger should allow the remote unlocking to operate when connected.  Just leave it unlocked if safe to do so.

Hi Tom, it  does not seem to give enough juice to aallow central locking work.. It's putting out 4amps.. Really want to. Disconnect battery from car (earth only?) , and charge... Has alarm a stand alone power source, or will it not go off... THANKS FOR ALL ADVICE..... Stressing.. 🙂

The alarm can't be easily switched off.

There is a battery backup for the alarm sounder.  I'm not sure how long that'll last after main battery disconnection.

If it was mine I'd jump start it and run for at least 15 mins.  The alarm will stop the moment the engine runs and the alternator pumps out huge amounts of amps.  Will cost a bit more in petrol but cut an hour or two off charge time.
