slight knocking / thud felt when turning steering wheel

Featured Replies

Hi

My son has a 2011 Ford Fiesta and was wondering when he turns the steering wheel he can feel a knocking / thud. Any ideas what this can be? Initially he thought that the car had a tracking issue but I have tested and this does not be the the root cause. Tyre pressures are all ok also.

Snapped spring is most likely, followed by seized top mount bearing.

If you're really unlucky it may be the steering rack.

Also worth checking wishbone bushes.

It could also be the UJs on the steering column shaft, they are known to fail

Indeed.

There's a couple of good videos on Youtube that cover replacing the part.

I'm unsure about that as I never had to do it on my old fez as it was low mileage when I change to a focus, I do believe there are other threads on here about replacing steering shaft uj
