Door not working when cold

Featured Replies

I've got a 66plate, 1.0l ecoboost 2door fiesta, which we have owned from new.

when it's frosty the drivers door will not open so need to enter via passenger door,  after 20 mins drive you can open it from inside but then it doesn't close. Tried pushing it in place and use key , tried use key remote but still won't lock. It just keeps opening.

Last night I got home from work at 2.30am and you can imagine how much my neighbours would have loved listening to me slamming a car door shut for 20mins or so.

Any advice or help hugely appreciated

Try spraying some car door hinge spray grease into the door latch

My car has the same issue, when icy, driver door is stuck firm. I simply full a watering can with warm water, and drizzle it down over the opening seam, and door handle. No amount of 'greasing' will prevent it...

The reason it doesn't close, is because the locking mechanism is iced up - you need to defrost it. Slamming it continuously is not a solution. See above paragraph!

When I said greasing I meant after using a water displacement spray such as wd40, that will get rid of the water sitting in the latch then the grease will act as barrier to any further water and stop it icing up

Still doesn't help, I tried all sorts for a complete winter before accepting that when icy, I need to approach car with trusty watering can full of warm water 🤣

So, the 'frosty' weather was a red herring then? That video shows the repair of a broken spring, not one that fixes itself when it gets warmer...

I've booked my car into ford dealership where I bought it, goes in on Monday so will update then. When I called the lady who answered has exactly the same issue with her fiesta too, for me it's happening too often now

Hi. Did you give an update following your visit to the Ford dealership.

Did you try the 'warm water' fix I mentioned on a post above? Works everytime...
