Auto hazard lights on heavy braking?

Featured Replies

Happy New Year everyone! 🥳

Now, does the Mk8 comes with the feature in the title by default? My unit in question is a December 2017 Mk8 1.1 Ti-VCT.

Some time ago I had to do an emergency braking on the highway, although truth is speed wasn't too high, since I was already at the deceleration lane before an exit. Still, nothing happened, no auto hazard lights, no nothing.

I've been trying today, at speeds at above 50Km/h as stated in the manual. Sudden, heavy braking and, again, nothing.

The only setting regarding this I've found in Forscan is "Emergency braking lights" under BCM, it was enabled by default.

Am I missing something? I'm reading posts in this forum back from 2010 and people already had this function working on their Fiestas.

TIA, best regards and wishes for the incoming year,

Luis.

My handbook says the following:

Note:   Depending on applicable laws and regulations in the country for which your vehicle was originally built, your brake lamps may flash during heavy braking. Following this, your hazard lights may also flash when your vehicle comes to a stop.

Mine (in Spanish) actually says "in the country your vehicle was built". Maybe a mistranslation?

I've had someone recording while I was checking this this morning... No brake lamps flashing, no hazard lights afterwards, no nothing.

Does this work in your car?

Yes, I would think it is a mistranslation.

You can't see the brake lamps from inside the car anyway, and certainly the hazards have not been triggered so I guess I've never had to brake hard enough during the 6 years I've had this and my previous Fiesta.

I note that the handbook only says "may flash" in both cases so I assume it needs to be a really serious tyre-smoking stop! I have seen other cars do it under such circumstances.

Yes, "it's possible that..." in both cases in my manual too. Thing is I've had the hazard lights flashing on me in a rental Fiat 500, and I've seen other cars too doing that in the highway. You can notice it's not the driver pushing the hazard switch, since the flashing is at a higher frequency than normal.

I'd swear I read in the manual this should happen above 50Km/h, but nope, I must have read it elsewhere. In fact here in the forum I'm reading posts stating this should happen above 60mph, 96Km/h. Hmmm...

Thanks for your time!

Best regards.

Possibly, does it mention the King Charles and the Princess of Wales ? 🤣

Can confirm the hazard lights wont flash when coming to a halt after an emergency braking. Not sure about the brakes lamps flashing, but I doubt it... 😓

Good news is stop distance is pretty short at 90-100Km/h. I can literally feel my brain bouncing inside my skull(¹), like a sudden but mild drop in blood pressure.

Disappointed, specially when I've driven another car here in Spain and had, not the brakes lamps, but the hazard lamps flashing thingie, so I was convinced it was mandatory here. Plus I've seen other cars doing it too...

Also, could a kind soul with a Mk8 and Forscan check if there's a setting under BCyM called "Hazard lights under rapid deceleration" or something like that? It's definitely missing in my car.

TIA, best regards,

Luis.

(¹) Small brain, huge head.

You're going to great lengths to test this - be careful you don't cause a real accident trying it!😀

Deserted industrial zone, long road with preference at every crossing. Plus this morning everybody was either still celebrating the New Year, either sleeping the hangover. Still, yes, not the most clever thing to do, specially when that road is limited to 30Km/h. In fact it was totally stupid, but I surrendered to my OCD.

Anyway, tests are over, more than likely my car doesn't have that function, maybe because it's a lower trim, Trend+. Also maybe it's only available with led tail lights? Mine has halogen bulbs. I'll go ask to the dealership anyways, maybe IDS can make some magic Forscan can't?

Best regards,

Luis.

Does your OCD not wonder if the airbag will or won’t work seeing as you’re testing for other safety features?
