Mk6 fuel filler lock

Featured Replies

Hi All,  when my son bought his '08 Fiesta, the fuel filler cover lock was broken, but I bought a replacement, complete with key, from ebay. I'm now wondering if it is possible to dismantle the new lock so I can configure it to operate with the car's original key, thanks!

The locks are very easy to rebuild. Re-keying kits are available from Ford or on the likes of eBay.

I assume you don't have the original lock from the broken filler cover ?

Depending on the Ford Tibbe Key for your model it will either have 4 discs or 6 discs. You will most likely not be able to rekey the lock you have without some new discs.

Now that looks quite easy compared to the bonnet lock I spent an afternoon once rebuilding!

Well I am assuming that his lock is the Tibbe type and not the flat blade type.

You just need to transfer over the lock barrel. No need to rebuild the core.

Just remove the 'E' clip from the back of the lock and carefully slide the barrel out. I'm sure that i've seen a YouTube video somewhere showing how to do it.

This is not exactly correct for the fuel filler cover lock but will give the general idea. There may be better videos to be found on YouTube.
