Will mk6 steering rack fit to mk5?

Featured Replies

Hello,
I have a 2003 Fiesta 1.4 TDCI which has a leaky steering rack. Found a good second hand rack from a 2008 petrol model.
Will it fit to my car? If no, should I only search for exact same model?

Thank you

2003 is Mk6 in the UK.  As long as the 2008 model is also Mk6 (not Mk7) then it should fit.

Oh sorry, seems like there's a mk6, mk5 confusion in EU. It's the same car with updated headlights and rear stop lights as shown in the pictures below

Yes, those are Mk6 and Mk6.5 (also called Mk6 facelift).  Mechanically the same underneath.

Just be aware that 1.6 diesels used an electro-hydraulic rack, so you can't fit one of those to any of the engines with a full-hydraulic rack.  Also be aware that ST's had rack limiters fitted due to the 17" wheels, so I'd avoid an ST rack unless you want a 50ft turning circle.

Thank you so much. You saved the day 🙂
