Chirping sound

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I know this has been covered before but I wasn't sure if the noise had different solutions depending on age/model of the Focus.

I bought my 59 plate 1.8 Zetec about two months ago. It now has 59k on the clock but this week I've started to hear a chirping sound, just like a bird. 😄

The dealer I got it from said he had replaced the chain at 56k. Apologies my mechanical knowledge is very limited. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Check the auxiliary belt.  See if it looks new (smooth, black, supple) or whether it looks old and grey and cracked.

Thanks Tom. You're speaking to a complete pleb as far as mechanics are concerned. Can you tell/show me where to look?

Scratch the above. Found it. Looks ok tbf. Could it be anything else? Brakes or bearings?

Well done.

Does it happen with the engine running and car stationary - or does it only happen while the car is moving?

Noticed first time driving into work.

Don't think that's clarified anything lol.

First need to work out whether it happens when stationary or not.

If only when moving, need to work out whether it changes when braking or not.

Had similar when the poly V auxiliary belt was one groove out on the bottom pulley.

worth checking belt is inline on all pulleys

Apologies Tom. Noticed when turning right and under breaking. Wondering now if it's break pads/discs?

Does sound brake related in that case.
