Automatic gearbox oil change

Featured Replies

Hi, I have Galaxy 2009 none power ship model. I changed the drive shaft and oil seal on both side. Due to that I lost some transmission oil. I now want to change it because it’s very dark!

but I never done it before.
Can someone help me with how to archive that please

Hi Ben, I assume that you do not think this is the power shift version, Can you give more details? Photos etc

First you need to research exactly what transmission you have fitted.

Then you need to research what fluid needs to be used and what filter and even if you can get to the filter (on some transmissions you can't)

Then you need to research how to drain the fluid AND, more importantly, how to fill and check the level correctly

If the fluid has been in a very long time and is very dark, you may want to consider changing the fluid twice as, when you drain and refill, you only get about 50% of the fluid out.

So, make sure the transmission is hot

Drain the old fluid

Measure how much fluid came out

Replace that amount of fluid with new fluid

Drive the car for at least 20 minutes making sure you or it runs through every gear including reverse

Drain the fluid again and fill to correct level

I think it'll be an AWF21 gearbox if it's not a Powershift.

The filter can't be accessed without removing the gearbox from the car and stripping it apart.

There are videos on Youtube showing the basic process for the oil change.  The oil can't be drained in one go, you'll only get a small amount out.  So top that up by the same amount, run the engine, cycle the gears, switch off engine.  Drain a small amount again and refill with the same amount.  Repeat as above.  May need to do that 3 or 4 times before the oil becomes clean.
