hit a curb in my fiesta

Featured Replies

hi guys, so i was turning right into a road and i hit the curb on my front drivers side wheel, the wheel is now very far out of place, ill attach photos aswell as under the car, i was going approximately 10mph, i had to drive the car home and i had to hold the wheel left at a 45 degree angle to go straight, can anyone help with diagnosing what’s wrong aswell as approximate costs ? bearing in mind i am 17 so i would prefer to avoid insurance, thanks so much !

ps the car is a 2016 fiesta

Not shown in your photos is the Track Rod (Tie Rod), and the Track Rod End. I expect that you have bent the track rod and possibly also caused damage to the TRE.

Parts are going to be about £45 and about £40 for fitting at a local independent garage.

Paint work is going to be around £200 🙁

some of the paint work was due to a previous incident and is been sorted soon, are you sure that that is all it could cost to fix, my friends who know more about cars than me say it could be hundreds nearing the £1000 mark, thanks

I can't be 100% without doing an inspection in person but I'd be reasonably sure the track rod will be bent. There may be other damage that I can't see but take the car to an independent garage that does 'Wheel Alignment' otherwise called Tracking (Costs about £40). They will be able to tell you whats wrong with the steering and quote for the repair.

Just looked at the photos again and I can see that the Track Rod is most definitely 'bent'

no worries, thank you so much for your help🫶

I wouldn't be surprised if the shock absorber and the lower arm (wishbone) are also bent.  They may not be immediately visible but will show up on a full wheel alignment test that includes camber and caster.
