MK3 Remote Control

Featured Replies

Hi, I have changed the battery in my remote control but now its not working. It is the remote with the key fitted that folds back into the side of the unit. I did leave the cover off over night so it probably has been without any power for 14 hours or so. Can these be reprogrammed and if so how? Thanks

It shouldn't forget just being left without a battery.

Did you fit the battery in the correct orientation? Did you check that there is no protective film on the battery?

as above. Also have you measured the new battery with a multimeter ?

Many brand new batteries are already partly dead straight out of the packet. A good new battery will measure 3.30V and if it is below 2.90V it is dead.

Thanks. I did forget to remove the protective backing and now the remotes are working but I still have a problem. When I turn on the ignition I get a dashboard message telling me my remote batteries need changing. I have changed batteries in both my remotes, both new batteries were 3.3v and 3.25v respectively.

How can I get rid of the message on the dashboard?

What batteries did you use and where did you get them from?

The keys have a habit of not liking cheap/fake batteries.

I used Duracell purchased from Sainsburys this morning

That should be fine, especially at the given voltages. The message may clear itself the next time you use the car.

Standing out side of the car use one of the keyfobs.

Press "Lock" - "Unlock",  "Lock" - "Unlock",  "Lock" - "Unlock", in less than 10 seconds. It will clear the battery message from the screen.

Just tried this and it hasn't cleared the message.

I had this and for me the fix was to clean the battery contacts in the remote.

The dealer replaced the batteries for me when I first picked up the car and it showed low battery warnings on the dash. They stopped on their own after a few days, I believe the system just needs to recognise a good few unlock/lock strong signals before it clears the message.

I think it was sheer coincidence that the message cleared. There is no logical reason that with a 3.3v battery which fully operates, that cleaning the contacts would clear a dash warning message...

There's always the possibility of duds/fakes even with batteries from a reputable source. I've had batteries showing 3.3v on installation fail again within 2/3 days.

Funnily enough, I've never actually checked how long it takes for the message to clear. After installing new batteries I generally just lock/unlock a few times remotely, and if all good, just leave it until next time I need to use the car. It's always been cleared when I have used the car, but I don't use it daily so it could take a while for all I know!

Thanks for all your replies. I'll check when I next use the car.
