2011 MK3 Titanium X - Intermittent window wash

Featured Replies

Someone recently hit my car parked outside of the house and did off, leaving damage to the front right panel above wheel arch and a leaking washer bottle. My Dad kindly replaced both with parts sourced from a local breakers yard.

Ever since, the front window window wash has been acting weird. It will sometimes spray the front window, wipers run 3 times and then spray the window again with no additional wipe.

Sometimes it won't spray the front windows at all with the wipers still running 3x, whilst also running the headlight washer. The bottle is full, and the rear washer is working fine.

I've tried searching for this fault but struggling to find similar, and wondering when my Dad has installed he's not hooked it up correctly - can anyone shed some light as car is due MOT in a months time.

Cheers

Do the headlight washer work every single time you try to wash the windscreen?

I think so, but can't say with 100% confidence sorry.

Then that's wrong.

Headlight washer should only operate every third time the screen is washed.

I think the wiring and/or the pipes are crossed between the pump for the screen and the pump for the headlights

That makes sense, thanks for the quick response!!!

Apologies for the ignorance, does that mean if I swap pipes over (my dad won't have messed about with the wiring) I should be good to go?

I think it more likely that it is just the wiring is crossed. The pumps just plug in. Unplug each pump and then put it on the other one.
