Front subframe Chassis Number and engine number

Featured Replies

Helloooooo,

Hoping one of you guys can help.

I have a 2005 transit connect which has been threatened  with termination by my usual mechanic.

A kindly local mechanic repair shop said he thinks he can save it if I get a (new to me) front sub-frame for it.

The first place to start here is to get chassis number so that I can get the right part.

Is the number of windscreen passenger side the chassis number?

I would also like to find the engine number but for once youtube has let me down: I haven't found it.

Its unusual for youtube to not he helpful but hey  🤷‍♂️

Thanks in advance,

David

The 'Chassis Number' is just generally old terminology for what we now refer to as the 'Vehicle Identification Number' or VIN for short.

Yes it is the number that you can see through the windscreen on the corner of the dashboard.

Both the VIN and the engine number are shown on the V5c ownership/keeper document. So no need to go climbing about the engine bay to get the number.

Thanks very much for that.

I did wonder.

I know it sounds terrible but with life getting in the way the V5 hasnt been seen for some  time.

It might still be useful to know where the engine number is?

I've had the vehicle for all but 6 months of its life (2006 registered) so plenty of time for it to go missing.......
