BLOWN UP! VIGNALE FOCUS 1.5 DIESEL DSG AUTOMATIC @25,000mile

Featured Replies

Hi

I could hear a light whining or wurring noise is some of the lower gears on my 25000 mile 2020 plate focus (not revs related noise rather the noise proportional to the road speed) - for the last 100 miles or so. Wasn't sure if it was normal  as it's my wife's car. I came out of a roundabout gently accelerating and it stopped accelerating (no warning lights on the dash) then it stayed at 50mph then geared down and revved harder to 3000rpm. I decided had to carry on to a layby - 100 yards before it it started ticking from the engine bay and smoking badly (from behind) in the mirrors. It stopped in the layby. The smoke seemed to be frictional. It wasn't on fire. The smoke stopped. The car will start with a missfire and wen't into neutral but its not well.

Anyone have any idea whet the trouble is?

Thanks

Yes, you broke your wife's car !! 🙄

You need to use FORScan and read the DTC's. I would have said a transmission problem, but since you say the engine starts but with a missfire that would suggest that it is an engine issue. Without the the DTC's it would very much be a guessing game.

I thought Mk4 1.5 TDCI used the 8sp torque converter 'box, not a DSG type?  No dry clutches to be burning if so.

There was a timing belt issue with some early 1.5 TDCI's, though I think it was sorted before 2019.

As above, need some fault codes or further visual diagnosis really.

Yes 1.5 ecoblue still uses 8 speed torque converter

my guess - its eaten the turbo

Thanks everyone. Yes at 26000 miles, Ford just rang me and said it's eaten the turbo.

Does anyone happen to know if this is has a wet timing belt or is it conventional.

Thanks again all.

Conventional dry belt on 1.5 TDCi.

that's bad news... are they saying the engine is toast ?

at that mileage - forget the LIES they will tell you - UK consumer law says you have 6 years to fight !!!  (the BS of the pathetic warranty is just an attempt to fob you off) if the car is in good condition and you have servicing in line with ford (and ideally via ford franchised dealership) you have the right to expect goods of high value (this easily qualifies) to meet certain needs and longevity....

at 30k for the car, and it being less than 4 years old and only 25k miles (so long as you can prove the servicing has been completed in line with ford spec and no child has chipped it)  - ITS ENTIRELY THEIR PROBLEM

take them to the small claims court for the entire costs (keep every receipt and the timing of everything you are doing to get this fixed THEY need to pay ALL costs) - if you are brave let them rip you off and fit a whole engine and a new turbo - then go get your money back after the fact - small claims limits will be exceeded if they do the whole engine - BUT its STILL their problem not yours.....

the issue NO ONE is brave enough to stand their ground....

(2)The quality of goods is satisfactory if they meet the standard that a reasonable person would consider satisfactory, taking account of

(a)any description of the goods,

(b)the price or other consideration for the goods (if relevant), and

(c)all the other relevant circumstances (see subsection (5)).

(3)The quality of goods includes their state and condition; and the following aspects (among others) are in appropriate cases aspects of the quality of goods—

(a)fitness for all the purposes for which goods of that kind are usually supplied;

(b)appearance and finish;

The relevant circumstances mentioned in subsection (2)(c) include any public statement about the specific characteristics of the goods made by the trader, the producer or any representative of the trader or the producer.

(6)That includes, in particular, any public statement made in advertising or labelling.

SO IF THEY ADVERTISE THEY ARE GREAT, RELIABLE CARS or YOU CAN FIND INFO SUGGESTING IT SHOULD MANAGE 75K miles etc...  which they do in the std warranty....    forget the age its mix and match of what is REASONABLE....
