16 plate focus GPS antenna open circuit

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I currently own a ford focus 16 plate sync 3 (MK3.5) RHD and just need a little guidance prior to stripping my car down in the wrong place.

My car last time running a DTC read comes up with GPS antenna open circuit, my satnav thinks the car is in Germany (assuming manufacturing site for the sat nav module?) Despite being in the UK. The location never changes and it does not pick up any satallites.

Iv been reading online and my understanding is that the GPS antenna can be overlayed with an aftermarket antenna as opposed to dropping the headliner and replacing the aerial base unit using a fakra module, but iv no idea where to actually plug it in. Would this be behind the a post? Glove box? Directly behind the infotainment etc?

Really hoping for some guidance if that's possible please. Just hoping someone can point me in the alright direction so I am not stripping the car down in the wrong place potentially breaking interior trim fixings and ending up with a shed. Iv happily used android auto but hoping to get it fixed and have a DTC free vehicle.

Thank you

Usual fault with a GPS aerial is actually the Amplifier and Isolator module which is located in the tailgate. Very often just behind the trim panel at the top edge of the tailgate.

For example see this thread

Hi Unofix,

Yes I do have a rear mounted dash cam. I have just popped the covers and inspected it. It all looks good and can't see any issues. Would the rear dash cam usb feed leak ESD / RF interference and block out the DAB? Can these modules be bought on-line?

This would be so easy with a wiring diagram, or a workshop manual or whatever system ford use. I'll see if theirs a module inside the tailgate when I get a chance to take it off. Should have clarified as well it's a titanium and while reading the thread there is no issue with dab / FM / am.

Thanks for the guidance. Once iv popped off the trim I'll have a look.
