Coding required after battery change?

Featured Replies

My girlfriend has a 2015 ecoboost. I recently changed the battery on it. I'm not sure what the old one was, but the new one is an EFB. Do i need to code it or something or is it just plug and play? I have read earlier models needed a radio code or something, but radio works fine here now after replacing.

I have also heard about a reset sequence where you put on the ignition, wait 10 secs, and then press fog light button 5 times and hazard button 3 times. Is that something I need to do?

Lastly I see there is a start/stop button above the stick. If you press it, the "off" light comes on. Meaning that the start/stop function has been activated all this time. But according to her, it has never worked. I suppose it should work by stopping the engine when you stop at traffic lights etc? It does not do that.

Thanks!

You need to reset the BMS when fitting a new battery. That sounds like the sequence you heard. Lots of videos on youtube showing how it's done.

Here's just one...

any idea why the start stop is not working?

If you haven't reset the BMS, it thinks the battery is old.

strange that it never has worked though. Could it be the old battery was not start stop compatible? It was a 60ah Silver Calcium battery.

Do a search on the forum for, 'start/stop issues'. The car needs to meet about 100 conditions before it will start to operate and is exceptionally voltage sensitive. Nothing more than a gimmick anyway, and I wouldn't lose a seconds sleep over it not working. As already stated, do a BMS reset, and if the battery is pumping out at least 12.8v, you should be in action.

That's not the correct battery for stop/start.

It has to be an EFB. The BMS can't detect the battery chemistry, but if it doesn't behave to charging as expected it probably then wouldn't enable stop/start.

yeah thats what i figured. Gonna try the BMS reset and see if it works with the new EFB battery. I see there are 2 different ways to do this, apparently for older models it is the fog light/hazard light one, and for newer cars it is the headlight/brake one. But I cant find out exactly what model year they started the last one. I'll try the fog light method first, cant do any harm I guess.

I have a 2015 focus and the correct procedure is the fog light button procedure for resetting BMS, the headlight brake light came a lot later I do believe in the mk4
