Tourneo day van

Featured Replies

So in addition to my 1st post on the subject of tourneo, I'm quite keen to explore making it into a day van, nothing to fancy possibly the option of making a bed and probably a drive away awning , any other ideas welcome from.those who've already explored this idea, bed ideally utilising the seats folder down with perhaps a board/frame in the boot area

As I mentioned in the other post, I did look at getting a Tourneo. It started initially with me wanting a Transit Custom (van) with the ideal of doing a camper conversion. After thinking about it more I decided I didn't need a full campervan as well as the complications of it being classed as a "van", even after conversion as the DVLA stopped classing new conversions as a "Campervan" (at the time, not sure on current situation), this meant that the "Van" still needed to comply to all van restrictions/speed limits etc. This is why I decided to go for the Tourneo LWB with 8 seats (not 9, so you can get in the rear easier) and it's also classed as a "car" (no van speed restrictions). The idea was to retain all the seats and remove as required, but I was going to down the route of basic modular units (If i needed any) and a portable compressor fridge, and to either fold the seats and make some sort of bed frame to go on top or, depending on what I was going away for, take all the rear seats out and just sleep on the floor. The other thing I was planning to do was getting HiLo pop up roof fitted (Way slimmer than other roofs) to give more sleeping space, though that would mean either removing the aircon unit and trunking in the rear area or re-routing with customised trunking somehow.

Unfortunately COVID came along and stock fell and prices shot up so I decide to keep saving my money and have gone down the route of solar panels and battery storage (I work at home mostly now and was an investemnt as the savings on electricity bill is more than what I would get in interest in a savings account, more so before the interest rates went up). I'm looking at the Electric Tourneo Custom now, though will be years off getting one of those as they will be £70K+ new for a high spec'd model I reckon!!

Much the same I would definitely want it to be modular and something that was only used for holidays etc, having done a quick Google search I've seen a few potential systems but none are UK based and can't seem to find much further info on them
