1.5tdci MK3.5 limp mode at 4k rpm

Featured Replies

Bit of an odd one, when I had my car at 4k rpm, I got an engine service now warning on the dash and it went into limp mode, I stopped the car, cycled the ignition and then it was back to normal, plugged my laptop in using forscan and there were no new saved codes. I'm a little puzzled as if this is normal behaviour, then surely the red line should be set to 4k not 5.5k

Just replaced the fuel filter today, and replicated the issue it's actually above 4k rpm in 3rd gear and above. The new fuel filter didn't fix it although the old one was 2 years overdue so needed doing anyway. @unofix maybe you (hopefully) have some insight.

To be honest no answers come to mind.

Perhaps use the mobile version of FORScan and try and see if you can get a DTC while you still have the message on screen.

Prolonged WOT codes tend to be for air pressure sensors.  Either MAP out of range or DPF sensor out of range.

It is odd that you're not getting any codes stored though.  If you want to run a live data test, I'd start with MAF, MAP and DPF pressure.

Will do, I'll try and get it to do it again but this time with my laptop plugged in while it is still showing the warning on the dash. I'll do this tomorrow.

I have attached the pictures of forscan as I managed to get some codes this time. I have already tried tightening all the intake pipe clamps but unsure of what to do next

That code is a bit misleading.  It basically means there's a discrepancy between the MAP & MAF sensors.  With MAP being lower than MAF.

If you can run a MAP & MAF graph, that may help us determine whether it's likely to be a leak, a turbo fault or a sensor fault.

Hi there. Did you ever get to the bottom of this problem? My focus did something really similar last week.

I have to assume it's a software bug, as mine will do exactly the same at 4200RPM in third, but ignition cycling doesn't store a code, which would be unusual if it was a legitimate code. There's a lot of people out there all reporting the same thing with 1.5TDCIs, and nobody has ever managed to "fix" it by replacing any parts.
