MK3 1.6EB The sound after removing the middle / rear muffler

Featured Replies

Hi

I'm wondering how the exhaust sound will change after removal of:

A) The middle muffler

B) The rear muffler

Has anyone of you done something like that?

I'm looking for 2 videos showing the sound after such modification.

I guess you don't have to worry about getting your car through an MOT test 🤣

Even without finding any videos, I can absolutely confirm that it will:

a) sound worse

b) sound intrusive inside the car when you're trying to listen to music

c) annoy other occupants in your car who will keep asking you when are you going to get your car booked into Kwik-Fit

d) startle other road users inc. pedestrians, horses etc

e) annoy your neighbours every time you use your car

f) attract unwanted attention from the police

g) almost certainly be illegal

I'm not worried about it because I don't live in the UK; there's no issue with it in my country

Great, but I'm still looking for recordings to hear:
a) "worse sound"
b) I can live with that
c) I don't care about my passengers' opinions; they can always take the bus
d) In my city, there is no shortage of such exhausts, so one more doesn't change anything. I also don't care about others' opinions; my car is supposed to please me, not everyone around. Moreover, as I mentioned in point "G," I doubt that this engine could generate sounds that would attract the attention of the police
e) It doesn't interest me either
f) As I already mentioned, I don't live in the UK; it's not a problem in my country.
g) Come on, cutting one muffler doesn't make it a straight-through exhaust. I don't believe that a 1.6 can produce such a loud sound.

I understand your answers - So I guess it's only

e) annoying neighbours

that we disagree on, as I DO care about my neighbours (which of course is everyone else in the world).

To answer your initial query, I don't think any video will really give you a true idea of the sound difference. But if there are lots of such exhausts already in your country can't you get an idea from them???

Out of interest, which country are you in?

I know that videos won't replicate the real sound, but at least a similar sound, and that would already give me a lot of information. There are many cars with modified exhaust systems, but I meant all cars, not specifically the 1.6 Focus, and if there is a Focus, it's usually much more modified, and it's not the sound I want to hear.

I know that I can always just remove the muffler, test it, and decide whether to leave it like that or put the muffler back, but I prefer to "for free" hear how it might sound.

I've searched on YouTube, but everywhere there are more heavily modified ones, so I'm looking on foreign forums where people have done such a modification; maybe they have private recordings, not necessarily uploaded to the internet

I live in Poland; we have certain exhaust noise standards here, but as I mentioned, I don't believe such a small modification would result in a sound that would be a reason for police intervention, so I'm not worried about that.

Well my old 1.6 ecoboost MK3 had a small hole before the mid muffler and it sounded like an obnoxious boy racer car. Popping while pulling away in 1st gear most of the time. I dread to think what it would be like without the mufflers, embarrassing would be my assumption 🤪

I'm talking about one muffler, either the mid-muffler or the rear one, not both at the same time. I still want to hear it and make the decision myself.
