Metal Numberplates?

Featured Replies

So I like to put on pressed metal number plates on my vehicles, most for the looks I admit but they do seem to stay cleaner than plastic ones. I've heard that the front one can sometimes affect sensors in newer cars. Now the manual for my mk4 Focus mentions not to put metal close to the front of the car if you have adaptive cruise control. I don't think my car has this, but has anyone experiences any issues with putting a metal plate on the front of their car?

Metal pressed number plates are the normal thing in many European countries as well as being the standard number plate in North America. So I can't see fitting a metal number plate on your car will pose an issue.

That was my thinking to be honest. Got a bit confused when folk at work started saying they had problems with them (not fords) and then the manual mentioning them 😕

Advice like this from folk at work is only ever valid if offered in a 'pub' environment after several pints have been imbued 🤣

I've got aluminium plates (not pressed just flat) on the front and rear of my car and have no problems with the radar. Just make sure it's mounted high enough not to block it, although that should apply to the plastic ones too.

Sounds good then, I'll go ahead and order them. 😄

I don't have radar on the front of mine but I do have front parking sensors.

As long as the plate isn't blocking any sensors then there won't be any issues. I have run pressed plates on all my cars in the factory positions and have never had a problem.
