Auto 1.0 Ecoboost engine compatibility

Featured Replies

Hi,

I need an a new engine for my 16 plate Focus with Automatic 1.0 Ecoboost engine. Engine code is M1DA

What I want to know is will any automatic 1.0 ecoboost engine be compatible? Or does it need to be a specific engine code and be an auto?

Déjà vu ? 🤣

I think this is a slightly different question in fairness.

Can ANY auto engine be used or does it have to match his engine code exactly.

Short answer is I don't know.  There were a lot of minor changes made to the 1.0 EcoBoost engine.  They aren't all identical as it seems at first glance.  Personally I would try to match the code if possible, but if you can't, you may be able to swap some parts from your current engine if they are found to be different.

1.0 Auto engine, when fitted with 6F15 six speed auto, is unique.

The engine had a balancer shaft, the manual version does not

Only the same engine can be fitted.

Ford have just called a recall on this spec of engine in the US, if your oil pump belt or tensioner has failed, contact Ford CRC and see what they will do, it's a known issue

Yes I have contacted them and they're not helping. I've sent them a reply stating my exact car has been recalled in the US. Here it is:

Hello,

You do realise that Ford USA has recalled Focus hatchbacks produced with a 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine and automatic transmissions between 03/24/15, and 05/04/18.
This is the same as my car! Ford has admitted the problem and for the sole reason that I'm in the UK and this is a UK car you won't help me even though there IS a manufacturing fault.

Does Ford UK have any plans on recalling the UK version of the Focus hatchbacks produced with a 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine and automatic transmissions between 03/24/15, and 05/04/18?

You really should be doing something about this as you are doing with the American market.

Kind Regards,

Haha, actually it's a different question. And an important one. I Really don't want to buy the wrong engine. 😅

Sorry, just seen your post.

Keep on at Ford, don't give in, Try emailing Martin Lewis as well

You must fit the same part number engine, but if you're buying a used one, make sure you check that the oil pump belt is not deteriorating before you fit it AND see it running before you buy it

Yes, you certainly don't want to get the wrong one. I see the M1DA is a very common version of the ecoboost 1.0 engine. However I notice some sellers on line are stating that it is suitable for manual and automatic gearboxes which doesn't seem right. You need to ensure the engine you buy (if used) comes from an automatic.

It's suitable for Powershifts, but not 6F15 Torque convertors
