Hello all ,

I have bought 66 plate ford focus semi automatic car 2 months ago and last saturday my gearbox gone , I have changed it with second hand gearbox but my car wont start at the moment as my mechanic my car needs to do reprogramming but someone called me earlier today saying my car wont start at all even after reprogramming and I phoned my local ford dealer and they are not sure if reprogramming will work as well and they wanted me to book in 3 weeks late which I cant wait that long so is any of you had this issue with their semi auto focus before is yes what did you do please ? thank you all .

Which model had the semi automatic transmission?

What was telling you the gearbox had gone?

Double check that the earth strap is properly reconnected.

Ford focus 66 plate and it says transmission malfunction service now and it was also saying transmission too hot . I have changed gearbox with second hand one and still not working as someone told me I need to fix my original one which will cost me 3800 pound plus VAT .

my mechanic put second hand one in and car didnt start at all so after he done something else car is starting now but not engaging any gear .

I would guarantee you have a wiring or TCM (Transmission Control Module) fault, not a gearbox fault, which is why it's still not working.

Could just be a flat battery too.

Most problems with these are caused by broken communications wires from the TCM to the gearbox, so it doesn't know what to do

I dont know as mechanic said gearbox gone and i have bought second hand one . I dont have any good gearbox repair centre near me who will look at it as my orginal gearbox is out at the moment . 

You need to put back the original gearbox and then get an Auto-Electrician (not a mechanic) to fix the real fault which as Dave has already said will be either a broken wire or a TCM fault.

my mechanic said dual mass flywheel gone which I have changed as well and I had grinding noise aroung 2 weeks before my gearbox completely stop working . can electrician fic TCM fault ?

Your mechanic sounds like he's just guessing.

Yes an Auto-Electrician can fix problems with the TCM.

It may not be going into gear because clutch relearn has NOT been performed on the replacement box, or the replacement box is just as shot as the original.

My money is on a comms faults though, which will never go away, no matter how many gearboxes you fit.

If it does turn out to be a wiring fault, I would refit the original gearbox and get my money back

TCM will be on extended Ford warranty and NOT £3800 at all.

I would take it to Ford or a very good vehicle electrician

I think they are having a good laugh at your expense !!!

Just take it to a Ford Main Dealer, even they wouldn't charge you any more and you'd have a working car.

They can fix your car, but it may cost.

But at least they will get it working properly

Some components are covered under the powershift extended warranty, so don't panic too much.

If you bought the car with finance or a credit card, I would be recouping the costs from them

no unfortunately I bought cash and no warranty on it . I do use that car for private hire taxi and not working last 2 weeks now .
